WINE MADE EASY – PART 4

HOW TO REMOVE WINE STAINS

If you enjoy red wine, sooner or later, you’re going to have to deal with a red wine spill. Welcome to the club! Here’s our ultimate guide to easily getting rid of stains…

1. DON’T SCRUB
Straight after a spill, you might be tempted to try and vigorously rub the stain away. But don’t! This can more firmly embed the red wine into the material. Rather, dab ever so gently to get the obvious liquid away, then move to one of
the next tips below.

2. SPLASH ON SOME WHITE WINE
If you have an open bottle of white wine handy, now’s the time to pour a little over the stain. It works much better than water because it’s far more efficient at dissolving the pigment that gives red wine its colour. This will greatly reduce the intensity of the stain.

3. NOW ADD SALT
If the spill is on your carpet or rug, now cover the entire stain with salt until you can’t see the actual stain anymore. Let the salt soak into the wet stain and then dry. As the salt dries, it should suck up the stain. Then, simply vacuum everything up.

4. BAKING SODA & WHITE VINEGAR, OR SODA WATER
If your clothes or tablecloth has a stain, mix together a little baking soda and vinegar to form a paste and allow it to soak into the fabric. If you don’t have these ingredients on hand, then throw a little soda water over the stain and let it fizz away for 10 minutes. The carbonation will help dissolve the red pigments. Whichever method you use, the stained fabric will always need a machine wash to completely remove any remaining evidence of the spill.

That’s about everything you need to know about wine stains.
